안녕하세요 후원자님. 1961년 4월 29일 설립된 WWF 세계자연기금이 올해로 60주년을 맞이했습니다. 그동안 후원자님의 환경에 대한 관심과 지원 덕분에 지금까지 꾸준히 일해올 수 있었습니다. 인류와 자연이 조화롭게 살아가는 지구를 만들고자 노력하는 WWF와 함께 해주시는 후원자님께 다시 한번 감사의 마음을 전합니다.  지난 3월 27일 어스아워(Earth Hour)에 저희 라이브 방송 보셨나요? 잠깐이라도 불을 끄고 어두움 안에서 자연과 하나되는 경험을 해보셨기를 바랍니다. 이번 어스아워에서도 지구상 모든 존재는 서로 연결되어 있고, 자연을 지키는 일이 곧 인류를 지키는 일이라는 소중한 메시지를 나누었답니다.  올해는 벛꽃 개화 시기가 유난히 빨랐죠. 기온이 점점 높아지면서 생긴 현상이라고 합니다. 어스아워와 함께 찾아온 봄날은 4월에도 계속됩니다.   < 4월 주요 소식 > [WWF 인터내셔널] WWF가 60주년을 맞이했습니다. 안녕하세요 후원자님. 완연한 봄이 느껴지는 요즘입니다. 최근 백신 접종이 이뤄지면서 집단면역과 코로나 종식에 대한 기대감이 높아지고 있는데요, WWF도 그에 걸맞게 희망적인 소식을 준비해 보았습니다. [공지] 연례보고서가 발간됩니다.   [WWF 인터내셔널] 남미에는 국경없는 재규어가 있어요. 재규어는 중남미 지역에 주로 서식하는 고양이과 맹수입니다. 안타깝게도 재규어의 범위는 삼림 벌채와 농업 활동으로 인해 지난 100년 동안 절반으로 줄어들었으며 일부 국가에서는 멸종되고 있습니다. 2017년부터 WWF 페루, 콜롬비아 및 에콰도르에서는 이 지역을 가로지르는 74만 에이커의 숲 (서울 면적의 약 5배)인 Napo-Putumayo Corridor 에서 전례없는 놀라운 재규어 연구를 진행하고 있습니다. WWF는 이 지역에 129 개의 카메라 트랩을 설치하여 재규어의 개체 수를 조사했습니다. 이러한 노력의 결과로, 해당 지역의 개체 수가 최소 2,000 마리로 확인되었습니다. 이 영상으로 WWF가 야생동물을 어떻게 보호하는지 확인할 수 있겠죠? 만나볼까요? 영상을 보러 가요   [WWF 인터내셔널] 드론으로 호주의 숲 지대를 살릴 수 있다! 지난 호주산불의 피해. 다들 잘 알고 계시죠? WWF 호주본부는 끔찍한 산불로 인한 동물과 나무의 손실을 복원하기 위해 새롭고 혁신적인 방법을 실천하고 있습니다. 호주 재건을 위한 노력 프로그램 #RegenerateAustralia의 일환으로 호주는 2030년까지 20억 그루의 나무를 심고, 코알라의 수를 두배로 늘린다는 계획을 세웠습니다. 지난 산불로 피해를 입은 코알라의 주된 식량은 고무나무입니다. 소실된 고무나무를 복원하기 위해 WWF 호주본부는 고무나무의 씨앗을 특수 드론에 부착하고 오지에 살포하였습니다. 드론을 가동하면 하루에 40,000 개의 씨앗을 심을 수 있으며 코알라와 다른 야생 동물의 생존에 도움이 될 것입니다. 영상으로 그 과정을 살펴보시죠! 영상을 보러 가요   [WWF 인터내셔널] 북극곰 순찰활동을 소개합니다. 등굣길이나 출근길에 북극곰을 만난다? 동화속의 이야기일 것 같지만 그린란드에 있는  이토코르토르미우트(Ittoqqortoormiit)마을에서는 실제로 일어날 수 있는 일이라고 해요. 북극곰이 인간과 더 가깝게 접촉하게 되며 인간과 북극곰은 서로 대립하는 상황에 놓이게 되었습니다.  또한 북극곰이 서식하고 있는 얼음 굴에 들어가 볼 생각을 한 적 있나요?사실 두려울 수 있는 일이죠. 하지만 WWF의 지원을 받는 러시아 북극곰 순찰대는 이러한 일을 하고 있어요. 이야기를 들어 볼까요? 그린란드 이야기 러시아 이야기   [성과] 재생에너지와 기후변화의 연관성은? 많은 양의 온실가스가 산업화의 과정에서 배출된다는 사실은 잘 알고 계실거예요. 특히 오랜 시간동안 전 세계의 전력시장에서 주에너지원이었던 석탄은 탄소배출과 기후변화의 원인입니다. 각국은 파리협정을 기점으로 수력, 풍력, 태양열 등이 중심이 된 재생에너지 발전 목표를 구체화 하였습니다. 최근 대한민국 정부는 2050 탄소중립 목표 선언과 사용전력의 100%를 재생에너지로 전환하는 글로벌 캠페인 RE100의 이행 지원방안을 발표하는 등 재생에너지 사용 확대를 위한 글로벌 기후레짐에 조응하고 있습니다.
